Wells Fargo grants $160,000 for the renovation and construction of affordable homes

LAS VEGAS – November 30, 2023 – On Monday December 4, Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada (NHSSN), along with Wells Fargo volunteers, will be renovating the home of Alfreda Ferrell, granddaughter of legendary African American journalist and civil rights activist Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Active in the in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Wells-Barnett was a powerful voice, fighting for rights of African Americans and women.

The City of Las Vegas recently brought the electrical power to the house up-to-code and cleaned the yard.

NHSSN, along with contractors Validity Construction and B&H Construction, will begin renovating the house with volunteer assistance from Wells Fargo employees. Volunteers will help move the Ferrell family belongings to storage and assist with landscaping.

Wells Fargo has provided a grant of $160,000 for the Ferrell family project, along with the construction of affordable single-family homes in the Historic Westside of Las Vegas. The homes will be developed and built in 2024.

NHSSN is an affordable housing developer with 216 housing units scattered throughout Southern Nevada, dedicated to low- to moderate-income individuals and families.  NHSSN offers pre-and post-purchase homeownership counseling and homebuyer education; foreclosure prevention/loss mitigation counseling and reverse mortgage (HECM) counseling; financial literacy education and coaching; and community-building events throughout Southern Nevada
